2012 Pinot Noir Block 5
Tightly bound aromas of polished leather, mocha and violet infused black cherries. Layers of blackberry and violets with exotic spice on the palate offer hints towards the wine's provenance. Unrivalled tannin integration allows for seamless flow from core to finish. A brilliant juxtaposition of poise and power: unmistakably Block 5.
Wine Spectator, MaryAnn Worobiec, June 2014
Offers a laser beam of crisp, pure currant and berry flavors, with plenty of pepper, lavender and Earl Grey tea accents. Smooth and polished, showing taut tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2027. 574 cases made, 90 Points.
Gourmet Traveller, Bob Campbell, April/May 2014
The best wines grow in the glass and in the bottle. This is such a wine. Initially I was impressed with its subtle power and seamless texture but a little air time exposed an array of flavours that were not immediately obvious: black cherry, spice/thyme and a hint of violets. I love it now but know that I will love it even more when it has gained extra bottle age. A relatively high (24 per cent) proportion of whole clusters has given the wine greater structure and longevity, possibly at a cost to accessibility now.
