Tasting Date: 14 November 2008
Rich aromas of fruit and spice, a typical block 3 fruit spectrum with background crushed herbs, all in all a boisterous and complex nose, still young. On the palate, a rich vein of fruit that screams of generosity but with an interesting linear dimension of mineral tension. Textural and very refined. The upfront intensity shines through into the finish. Still very young. Drink / Hold
Wine Advocate: 2002 Felton Road Pinot Noir Block 3 93+ A noticeably darker colour than the older vintages, whilst the nose has much more vigour and fruit expression with none of the green pepper characteristics. Dark cherries, briary, touch of mocha and leather. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced with good acidity, a fine sense of natural being. Youthful and vibrant, this seems to be ageing at a glacial pace. Chewy tannins on the finish. A great Block 3 but it needs another 2-3 years. Drink 2010-2020.
